Food and Water Tips
Daily, clean, fresh water is a necessity – stay away from plastic containers/bowls.
Safe Puppy Containment
We recommend a 24’H (collapsible) wire exercise pen to contain puppy when not handling – We have found these on Amazon for a great price.
We ALWAYS recommend using a harness instead of a collar style leash when walking puppy!
We ALWAYS recommend using a harness instead of a collar style leash when walking puppy!
Dog Parks and Pet Stores
We do NOT recommend taking puppy to a public dog park – there are some very irresponsible owners out there AND it’s a great place to catch a disease – same goes for Pet Stores! DON’T let puppy walk on the floor until all shots have been given and puppy is no longer susceptible.
Proper Pug Grooming
Lots of things can happen if you do not groom your pug properly. Things from yeast infections, skin fold dermatitis, dry skin, and bad odors. Your pug will need a bath once every 3 weeks (even if they don’t look dirty). The coat should be brushed well 2 to 4 times per week and the wrinkles on the face should be inspected and cleaned 2-3 times per week – don’t forget to check/clean the ears as well.
Healthy Pug Diet
It’s no secret that your little pug will like to eat – they are almost driven by food, if you ask us. Your pug will want to eat constantly and he/she will do anything to get you to feed him/her. Make sure you choose a healthy diet, with great quality dog food. We recommend checking your food with Dog Food Advisor – Make sure to feed your pug healthy treats – treats can be great for training as long as they are in moderation. Below is a list of healthy treats for pug:
- Berries – blackberries, raspberries and strawberries all make great treats! Just don’t add any sugar.
- Apples – great for training when cut up into small pieces
- Pears – same as apples
- Watermelon – GREAT during the summer – make sure it is seedless – great way to keep puggy hydrated during those hot summer months. Freeze them into little cubes and watch your pug go crazy!
- Eggs – scramble or boil them, it doesn’t matter.
- Peanut Butter – rich in protein and tastes YUMMY – simply get a spoon and let them lick it off
- Celery – great because of the texture, add some peanut butter and watch your pug go wild
Puppy Vaccinations
Your puppy will receive all recommended vaccinations up to their 8th week of life. We highly encourage all new pug parents to schedule a 10 week puppy wellness check with your veterinarian. You must provide us with your 10 week vet visit report in order to obtain your Mile High Pugs Health Guarantee. This will also allow you an opportunity to schedule/discuss upcoming vaccinations that puppy will need. For more information on vaccination schedules, per AKC guidelines, please visit their website at: www.akc.org - AKC recommends the following guide for puppy vaccinations:
